Joruna Nudibranch Laying EggsThis Joruna nudibranch is laying its pink egg mass onto an algae covered rock.

The shallows of Seraya Secrets dive site in Tulamben, has become the breeding location for dozens of the large Joruna nudibranch over the last few weeks. These are one of the largest nudibranch species here in north-east Bali, with only the Spanish Dancer nudibranch being larger. Right now there are egg layers, mating couples and juveniles all congregating among the rocks in 3-6 meter depths.

The King of Nudibranchs

A day off from photo instruction and we  dive with our friend Ajiex Dharma - "The King of Nudibranchs". Ajiex was testing his new camera housing and I was playing with a new camera body.
Ajiex has the incredible ability to find nudibranchs anywhere, we are sure he could find them in a roadside puddle!
Today we explored a dive site in Tulamben where a sand slope has a few hydriods and some crinoids here and there. Ajiex fins-off and is constantly pointing out tiny dots on  pieces of algae and hydroids. Out comes the magnifier to view a nudibranch so small that even with a magnifier, I can only then see which end is which. Here are some of these beautiful 4mm long nudibranchs, photographed with an Olympus E-pL6 with 60mm macro lens, along with a +20 Reef Images wet lens and BluSnoot Fiber Optic snoot and one Inon Z220 strobe.
