Modifying the Olympus PT-EP10 housing (or the PT-EP05L & PT-EP06L) to fit a
Zen or Precision Port for the 8mm Panasonic Fish Eye Lens.
Note: There is no need to do this modification, if you are fitting the Athena Dome Port for the 8mm Panasonic Lens, as this port has enough clearance. I highly recommend the Athena Paort for build quality, optical quality and no need to modify your housing.
To fit the Zen dome port or the Precision dome port suited to the Panasonic 8mm fish eye lens it is necessary to grind/sand off the small button protector that sticks outward from the front of the Olympus PEN housing. This protrusion is not used for any function on this housing, it is a left-over feature from the PT-EP05L housing, this was the button pressed to actuate the built-in LED lights on that housing. I figure that Olympus used the same mould for the PT-EP05L and the PT-EP10 front section of the housing?
The above two dome ports designed for the Pansonic 8mm fish eye are very short in barrel length, so the dome rear will touch this protrusion if it is not removed, this would not allow the port to seal on the housing, as the port would be on an angle.
The easiest way to remove the protrusion is to use an angle grinder fitted with a sanding disc (NOT a grinding/cutting disc). I used what we in Australia call a "flap sanding disc" to sand my own housings. First remove the port and fill the inside of the housing with tissue/toilet paper (preferably 'new' - not 'used' !) to stop dust getting in the housing. Then just sand gently and the disc will sand the protrusion off until the protrusion is lower than the port barrel, so the domes can be fitted without touching the protrusion. Obviously be careful of not touching other parts of the housing... or your hands, arms etc. This is for responsible grown-ups to do, if you aren't responsible & grown up, don't try it ! Photos below:
