Season's end in Sangeang & Komodo

Our last trip in the Komodo region was in late November. With six keen u/w photographers onboard for a trip from Bima on the island of Sumbawa to Labuanbajo on the island of Flores. We visited Sangeang volcano enroute and spent two days diving the black sand slopes and reefs on this stunning island.
We explored and found two new sites. The first we named Dead Tree Ridge was a fantastic ridge of coral running from 6 down to 40 meters deep, but with most of the best reef life between 10-15 meters. Then there was Driftwood Cliff with beautiful bommies loaded with nudibranchs at 18-25 meters, and the shallows in 3-8 meters were as rich as any we have seen in Komodo, with anemones & crinoids in every colour of the rainbow.
We all had fantastic encounters with a giant napolean wrasse near Gili Lawa Laut Island and a brilliant drift with every fish imaginable at Golden Passage. The manta rays at Makassar Reef turned on an acrobatic show for the photographers. Our last day saw the beginning of the wet season set-in, with torrential rain. We did what seemed to be a night dive at 2pm in the afternoon, with heavily overcast skies and the rain coming down in the bucket loads. It was nice to be underwater enjoying the conditions!
